What to Make in Your Instant Pot

What to Make in Your Instant Pot

Cary Berkley

I have encouraged many folks to get an Instant Pot to make cooking more efficient. Over the past few months, I have had several people ask me what else I use my Instant Pot for other than oats and soup. Here is a list of the things I make often in our Instant Pot:

  • Steel-cut oats (12 min)
  • Hard boiled eggs (5 min)
  • Frozen chicken breasts (12 min)
  • Sweet potatoes (10 min)
  • Artichokes (10 min)
  • No-soak black beans (45 min)
  • Butternut squash soup
  • Lentil soup
  • Hard-boiled eggs (5 min)
  • Beets (15 min)
  • Chili
  • Shredded chicken for tacos
  • Kalua pork
  • Congee porridge (traditional Chinese rice porridge)
  • Yogurt

There are many benefits of using an Instant Pot. The most notable being that it saves time and energy, easy clean up, preserves nutrients, makes a fantastic rice cooker, you can put frozen meat in it, and gets rid of any harmful micro organisms. Additionally, the "Keep Warm" setting allows you to make a dish and it will stay warm until you are ready to deal with it. I have even used this setting to keep things warm after I have made them on the stove top or in the oven. Despite the Instant Pot being an amazing tool, it does have it's limitations. There are things you should not expect from your Instant Pot such as: frying, stir frying, canning, and making anything crispy.

If you do have an Instant Pot and you are looking for some reliable recipes, I have compiled a list of sources that I trust and use recipes from often:

Nom Nom Paleo

Zen Belly

Healing Gourmet

Hip Pressure Cooking

The most common things I use my Instant Pot for on a weekly basis are soups, shredded meats for tacos and various dishes, hard boiled eggs, and to quickly cook hearty vegetables that usually take a long time to steam such as artichokes and beets.

What favorite recipes do you cook in your Instant Pot? I would love to hear about it and try some new recipes!
